The Notts and Derby Cyclocross league is one of the fastest growing cycling leagues this country has seen. It has got to the point where entries have had to be limited per race as so many people are turning up. Forme managed to secure the title sponsor for the 2017/2018 league meaning we would now have a strong presence at every round, perfect for the launch of the new Calver cross bike.
The scenic setting of Hardwick Hall hosted the first round of an exciting winter season ahead. The weather was typically as you'd expect from a cross race - damp and dull, but it dampened nobodies spirts as the under 8's race got underway. It was nice to see all of the new children in the league taking part in their first cross race with huge grins on their faces. As the day progressed, the riders got older, faster and more competitive. There are certainly some future stars in this league who could quite easily compete in the age category above them.
Forme had a rider in the senior men, David Fletcher, who was aiming for a win after his 2nd place in the National XC series. He went on to lead from the start with many people doubting his ability considering he was on his hardtail mountain bike.
Nevertheless he led from the outset, got a sizable gap of half a lap and held it to the end. An impressive display of dominance from David to seal the win.
If you could take your eyes off the racing and look inside the Forme tent you could see the crowd gathering around the new Calver frame, Forme's flagship cross bike with the weight coming in under 1.2kg! Look out for us at the rest of the league meetings and come and say hello if you get the chance. See you at Markeaton for Round 2!
