Born in 1980, the Notts and Derby Cyclo-cross League (NDCXL) has a reputation for being one of the strongest leagues in the country, with 32 affiliated clubs and around 500 registered riders, including riders from rival counties. As well as being able to attract high-profile riders, many NDCXL riders have gone on to represent their country, such as Team GB Olympians Annie Last and Nikki Brammeier, who both grew up competing in the Notts & Derby League.
The deal doesn't just consist of naming rights for the league; Forme branding will dominate each of the 11 events, not forgetting the finer details like race numbers, medals and prominence in all the league's communications. The 400 riders and many spectators will be able to find Forme exhibiting at each round where they can admire the brand's product scope, and have a chat with the bicycle maker's knowledgeable staff.
NDCXL Chairman, Gavin Hardwick, commented, "We're all excited to be working with such a strong, local brand who are as passionate about cyclo-cross as we are. The league has experienced fantastic growth in recent years, and the partnership with Forme will help to continue that momentum and maintain our position as one of the strongest, best run, and most enjoyable leagues in the country".
Forme's sponsorship announcement follows the brand's recent countdown to cross campaign for the impending arrival of the Calver frameset, which will be the lightest aluminium disc-brake equipped frame on the market, weighing in at just 1.2kg - lighter than most carbon framesets. The Calver frameset is the thoroughbred-racing tool, designed for the specific demands of a cyclo-cross race.
Fome's timing is perfect with cyclo-cross being one of the fastest growing disciplines of cycling in the UK and the NDCXL participation figures increasing by 100% since 2010. Traditionally cyclo-cross runs throughout the winter months on technical and often muddy courses involving various obstacles and running sections making superb bike handling skills and athletic prowess a necessity. With winter around the corner, we are now officially on ‘Countdown to Cross'.
